Robert Lee Bullard Robert Lee Bullard was born on 5 January 1861. An 1885 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, he fought as a volunteer in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and on the Mexican Border. After the U.S. entered World War I, he was given command of the 1st Infantry Division, known as the "Big Red One." He led the division in the capture of Cantigny, which was the first independent American action of the war. Performed outstanding service in the rest of the war, rose to Lieutenant General, and was given command of the American Second Army. Death and Burial Lieutenant General Robert Lee Bullard died on 11 September 1947. He is buried at the U.S. Military Academy Post Cemetery in West Point, NY. |
