Jacqueline D. Van Ovost was born in Arlington Heights, IL, and grew up in Fort Pierce, FL. She graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1988 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force. After earning her pilot wings, she served as an airlift pilot and became a test pilot on the C-17A program as well as an instructor at the Test Pilot School.

During her Air Force career, she has commanded an air refueling squadron; flying training wing; and the Presidential Airlift Wing. She also served as the Director of Mobility Forces, U.S. Central Command, for one year. Before her current assignment, Brig Gen Van Ovost was Vice Commander, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center.

Brig Gen Jacqueline Van Ovost is currently Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs (Europe, NATO, Russia), Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, DC. She is responsible for recommending policy positions on issues related to Europe, Eurasia, and NATO to the Director for Strategic Plans and Policy and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
