Corporal Westfall was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 23 October 1950 at Yusong, Korea.

For his leadership and valor, Corporal Westfall was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
