Charles Ballance Brooks, Jr. Charles Ballance Brooks, Jr. was born on 4 May 1910 in Memphis, TN, where he attended the public schools. In 1927, he entered the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. He graduated in 1931, receiving a commission as an Ensign and assignment to the battleship USS New York. In 1937, he attended post graduate school at Annapolis and concluded those courses in 1939. He was assigned as the Communication Officer on the staff of Commander Cruiser Division Five, on the flagship USS Northampton. From 1942 to 1944 he had tours of duty on the aircraft carriers USS Yorktown, USS Saratoga and USS Bunker Hill. In 1945 he was an instructor at the Naval Postgraduate School and in May of 1945 he was on staff duty on board the battleships USS Missouri and USS South Dakota. For the next fourteen years he was assigned to different ships and in 1958 he was assigned as Joint Chief of Staff, Washington, DC. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1959 and, in 1961, he was made Commander of Cruiser Division Two. In 1962 his last assignment was as Director of Naval Warfare Analyses in Newport, RI. Death and Burial Rear Admiral Charles Ballance Brooks, Jr. died on 28 July 1969 in Portsmouth, VA. He is buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, MD. |
