Technical Sergeant Marstiller was a member of the 801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron, U.S. Air Force. On 22 December 1952, he was flying as a medical technician in a C-47 Skymaster transport, flown by the Royal Hellenic Air Force. During take off at Suwon Airfield (K-13), the aircraft was struck by an Air Force F-80 Shooting Star fighter, killing all 14 on board.
Marstiller was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
