Thomas F. Bresnahan Thomas F. Bresnahan was born on 4 July 1892 in Fitchburg, MA. Bresnahan, a graduate of Middlebury College, VT, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 15 August 1917. During WW I, he served as an Intelligence Officer, later Commanding Officer, Company L, 38th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces, France from December 1917 to December 1919 and was wounded in action at the Meuse Argonne Battle. After the war, he returned to the U.S. as a Captain and was promoted to Major, 24th Infantry at Camp Furlong, NM, in June 1920. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he served as 52nd Brigade Assistant Chief Statistical Officer, Camp Perry, OH, and as Assistant Chief, Training Division, National Guard Bureau, Washington, DC. He was promoted to Colonel on 31 December 1941 and became Commanding Officer, 9th Headquarters Special Troops, Camp Maxey, TX. He was promoted to Brigadier General on 28 September 1943. As Commanding General, he served the Oise Intermediate Section European Forces and the Continental Base Section, U.S. Forces, occupation of Germany from November 1945 to March 1947. He retired from active service and as the Deputy Director General, European Command on 31 March 1948. Death and Burial Brigadier General Thomas F. Bresnahan died on 11 December 1971 in Fitchburg, MA. He is buried at Saint Bernard's Cemetery in Fitchburg. |
