Private First Class Kimbro was a member of Company A, 14th Engineer Combat Battalion. On 4 March 1953, he was riding in a jeep when it struck a land mine. He was killed by the explosion.

Kimbro was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
