Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Nutt was a member of the crew of the aircraft carrier USS Princeton (CV-37). On 6 June 1951, he was on the carrier's flight deck when a F9F-3 Pantherjet fighter crashed into the end of the deck, killing him, the pilot and another member of the ship's crew.

Nutt was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
