Private First Class Nolan was a medic with the Medical Company, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He suffered Hemorrhagic Fever and was evacuated to the 48th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital where he died on 22 May 1953.

Nolan was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
