James Breckinridge James Breckinridge was born on 7 March 1763 in Fincastle, VA. During the Revolutionary War, he served as an officer in Colonel Preston's rifle regiment. After the war, he was admitted to the bar in 1785 and commenced the practice of law in Fincastle, VA. He was a member of the State House of Delegates from 1789 to 1824. In 1809, he was elected as a Federalist to the Eleventh Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1817. He also was an associate of Thomas Jefferson in the establishment of the University of Virginia. He served as a U.S. Army Brigadier General in the War of 1812. Death and Burial James Breckinridge died on 13 May 1833 in Fincastle, VA. He is buried at the Breckinridge Grove Hill Estate in Fincastle. |
