Ensign Lennon was the pilot of a jet fighter stationed at Quonset Point Naval Air Station, Rhode Island. On 4 November 1951, while on a formation flying exercise, his aircraft exploded over New port, Rhode Island.

Lennon was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
