Seaman Le May served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Salerno Bay (CVE-110) during the Korean War. On the evening of 11 July 1952, his ship was anchored at Hampton Roads, Virginia. He inadvertently fell overboard. His remains were recovered several days later.

Le May was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
