Private First Class Jones was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Service Company, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 19 June 1951 at the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital at Yongbugwon, North Korea.

Jones was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
