Ewing E. Booth Ewing E. Booth was born on 28 February 1870 in Bower Mills, MO. First Lieutenant Booth served with the 7th Cavalry Regiment between 1901-04; he was promoted to Captain in 1904. He then served with 10th Cavalry Regiment during 1904-05 and returned to serve again with 7th Cavalry Regiment from 1905-15 (he was Aide-de-Camp to Major General J. Franklin Bell from 1912-15). Booth served with the 1st Cavalry Regiment from 1915-17 and, upon his promotion to Major in 1917, served as Chief of Staff, Eastern Department. He then served as Chief of Staff, 77th Division in 1917-18. He was promoted to Brigadier General (NA) in 1918 and assigned as Commanding General, 8th Infantry Brigade, 4th Division, 1918-19, and as Assistant Chief of Staff G-1 (Personnel), Service of Supply, AEF and then as Chief of Staff, Service of Supply, AEF & Chief of Staff, American Forces in France from 1919-20. In 1920, Booth reverted to the rank of Colonel and served as Deputy Allied High Commissioner to Armenia from January-June. He next served as Assistant Commandant, General Service Schools, 1920-21; as Director, General Service Schools, 1921-23; and as Commander, 1st & 4th Cavalry Brigades 1922-24. Promoted to Brigadier General in 1924, he then became Commandant, Cavalry School during 1925-27. His next assignment was Assistant Army Chief of Staff G-4 (Supply) in 1927 and he was promoted to Major General in 1929. He became Deputy Army Chief of Staff (October-December) 1930 and Commanding General, 1st Cavalry Division, 1931-32. His final assignment was as Commander, Philippine Department, from 1932-33. Death and Burial Major General Ewing E. Booth died on 19 February 1949. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
