Engineman (Fireman E3) Satterfield was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team #1. He received a gunshot wound to his chest and was evacuated to the destroyer escort USS Horace A. Bass (DE-691) where he died on 19 January 1951 at Pusan, South Korea..

Satterfield was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
