Second Lieutenant Di Napoli was the radar observer of a F-94B Starfire fighter with the 319th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, U.S. Air Force. On 17 January 1953, his aircraft crashed 13 miles south of Kimpo Airfield (K-13), South Korea.

Di Napoli was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
