Private Daves was a member of the 2nd Field Artillery Rocket Battery, U.S. Army. On 24 December 1950, he died of a coronary occlusion near Soyo-Dong, Korea.

Daves was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
