Sergeant First Class Freeman was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 14 November 1951 while on a training field exercise near Kolmochi, North Korea.

Freeman was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
