Private Cusimano was a member of Battery C, 204th Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army. On 3 November 1952 near Chorwon, North Korea, he was removing a hand grenade from his belt and it accidentally exploded.

Cusimano was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
