Private First Class Cooper was a member of the 1st Psychological Warfare Company, U.S. Army. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on 16 July 1952.

Cooper was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
