Private Abercrombie was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He died of other causes on 8 June 1953 at the 21st Station Hospital.

Abercrombie was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
