Sergeant Casbara was a veteran of Korea. Later, he was assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. On 3 April 1953, he was en route to Rome, New York, for Easter when he had an automobile accident killing him.

Casbara was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
