Captain Borgia was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. In Korea, he was an aerial observer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while on a reconnaissance mission over enemy lines in North Korea when his aircraft was struck by a Navy jet in a cloud bank on 11 May 1952.
Borgia was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the European Theater of Operations Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
