Master Sergeant Lupton was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Wol-li, South Korea on 4 February 1951.

For his leadership and valor, Master Sergeant Lupton was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
