Seaman Boerenko served aboard the repair ship AR-5, USS Vulcan, based at Newport, Rhode Island. On 2 September 1952, he was on leave when his automobile struck a truck on Route 20 near Becket, Massachusetts, killing him and three other naval personnel.

Boerenko was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
