First Lieutenant Bobak was a veteran of World War II completing 63 missions over Europe. During the Korean War, he was a pilot of a C-47 Skytrain transport with the 78th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Hamilton Air Force Base, California. On 30 December 1951, he was flying a C-47 transport with 28 airmen aboard on a flight to Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, when the aircraft iced up and crashed into the Armer Mountains of central Arizona killing all on board.
Bobak was awarded the Air Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the European Theater Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
