During the Korean War, Private Blaszczyk was assigned to the 320th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. On 4 December 1953, he had just returned from winter maneuvers at Camp Drum, New York, when he was killed in an automobile accident near Fatetteville, North Carolina.

Blaszczyk was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
