Sergeant Hill was a member of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. On 21 August 1951, he was riding in a jeep which went over an embankment near Hadaeri-ri, South Korea.

Hill was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
