Private First Class Beres was a member of Battery D, 15th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. He developed hemorrhagic fever and was taken to the 11th Evacuation Hospital, where he died on 18 November 1951.

Beres was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
