Second Lieutenant Harris was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. On 4 June 1952, he died near Chiro-Dong, North Korea of Meningeal Fibroblastoma.

Harris was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
