Sergeant Bartueck was a member of Company B, 120th Engineer Combat Battalion, 45th Infantry Division. On 16 June 1952, he was clearing a path for a bulldozer through a mine field near Karhwo-Gol, North Korea, when a mine exploded.

Bartueck was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
