Private First Class August was a member of the 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Satae-ri, North Korea, on 17 November 1952.

August was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
