Company L, 108th Infantry Regiment, 27th and 40th Infantry Divisions
LeRoy E. Sprague joined the New York National Guard in 1930. An employee of the Railway Express Agency, an early version of today's FedEx or UPS, Sprague was federalized with the rest of the 27th Division and sent to Fort McClellan, Alabama, then Hawaii.
LeRoy E. Sprague and the 108th Infantry Regiment were detached from the 27th Infantry Division and assigned to the 40th "Sunshine" Division.
Sprague served with the 108th Infantry Regiment on Hawaii, Guadalcanal, New Britain, and the Philippines. He was seriously wounded on February 13, 1945, during fighting on the island of Luzon. When the war ended, Sprague was recovering in a military hospital in California.
