Hugh Arthur Benton Hugh Arthur Benton was born on 25 October 1929 in Charlottesville, VA. He attended the public schools in Charlottesville. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, graduating in 1952. His first assignment was aboard an aircraft carrier, but afterwards most of his sea service was onboard submarines, including the USS Guardfish." He later commanded a submarine squadron then a submarine group. In the early 1970s, during the final years of the Vietnam War, he served as Director of Logistics and Security for the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific. He retired from the Navy in 1981. In Retirement After retiring he worked in private industry where he was assigned to manage a group of engineers and scientists working to develop containers for the long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel near Las Vegas, NV. Death and Burial Rear Admiral Hugh Arthur Benton died on 12 November 2008. He is buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, MD. |
