Corporal Way was a member of the 25th Military Police Company, 25th Infantry Division. On 6 May 1951, he drowned swimming in the Han River near Seoul, South Korea.

Way was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
