Private Wardlaw was a member of the 95th Chemical Service Company, U.S. Army. On 16 August 1953, he accidentally drowned at Haeuntae Beach, South Korea.

Wardlaw was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
