Private Temple was a member of the 54th Engineer Field Maintenance Company, U.S. Army. On 1 June 1952, he was shot by a sniper while sleeping in his tent near Tongduchon-ni, Korea.

Temple was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
