Private First Class Stevenson was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was Killed in Action while destroying an enemy machine-gun nest near Sonbyok, North Korea, on 6 October 1951.

For his leadership and valor, Private First Class Stevenson was awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
