Private First Class Sanders was a member of Battery A, 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 1 January 1953 near Taewi-ri, North Korea.

Sanders was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
