Private Brown was a member of the 194th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army. He developed encephalitis and was taken to the 171st Evacuation Hospital where he died on 17 September 1953.

Brown was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
