Sergeant Schick was a member of the 3rd Platoon, Company H, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while defending his position at Outpost "Hedy" (also known as "Yellow") in South Korea on 21 March 1953. He was presumed dead on 22 March 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
For his leadership and valor, Sergeant Schick was awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart with 2 Gold Stars, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
