Private First Class Riese was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 25 December 1953 near Chorwon, North Korea.

Riese was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
