Jimmy Edd Abernathy was the son of James Floyd and Annie M. Cornelius Abernathy. On 2 February 1969, U.S. Army Specialist Five Jimmy Edd Abernathy was serving as a Chaplain's Assistant with Headquarters & Headquarters Troop, 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Calvary, in Bin Duong Province, South Vietnam. On that day, SPC5 Abernathy was killed in action when he sustained wounds from Friendly Fire. His body was recovered. Medals & Awards Bronze Star Medal (Merit) Honors The name Jimmy E Abernathy is located on Panel W33 Line 35 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Burial Specialist Five Jimmy Edd Abernathy is buried at the Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery in Terrell, Catawba County, NC. |
