Captain Bellamy was a member of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on 11 August 1950.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy in Korea, Captain Bellamy was promoted to Major and awarded the the Silver Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
