Louis Hermann Bash Louis Hermann Bash was born on 7 March 1872 in Chicago, IL. Bash graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1895 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. During the Spanish-American War, he served in Cuba and was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action against Spanish Forces at Santiago on 1 July 1898. Promoted to Captain in 1901, he served in the Commissary Department from 1905-09, with the 6th Infantry and promoted to Major in 1916. In WW I, with the 16th Infantry in Europe, he was made Adjutant of the Service of Supply and earned the Distinguished Service Medal. After the war, he was promoted Colonel and transferred to the Quartermaster Corps in 1920. In 1929 he was assigned as Assistant to the Quartermaster General at the rank of Brigadier General and, in 1933, he became the head of the Construction Division of the 3rd Corps Area at Baltimore, MD. On 13 March 1934, President Roosevelt named him the 29th Quartermaster General with the rank of Major General. This appointment, climaxing a distinguished military career, was a reward for more than forty years' service in the Army. He is buried at the San Francisco National Cemetery in San Francisco, CA. |
