Biography:

Marie Margaret Boatman was the daughter of Clarence Otto and Ruby Ellen Clark Boatman. Boatman was pastor at Government Hill Methodist Church.

Marie attended Southwest University, Georgetown for pre-med and then graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Ft. Worth, TX. She had been in the Navy Nurses Corps for two years and seven months.

After spending a short leave with her parents, Ensign Boatman left San Antonio, TX, on 13 September 1950 for her assignment in a Navy hospital in Japan. On the night of 19 September, the four-engined C-54 Skymaster Navy transport plane in which she was a passenger took off from Kwajalein, enroute to Japan. Approximately one minute after takeoff, although there were no apparent failures, the plane crashed and exploded on impact in the Pacific Ocean, killing all 26 Navy personnel on board. Ensign Boatman was one of eleven Navy nurses on the plane.
