First Lieutenant Boone was the pilot of a F-80C Shooting Star fighter interceptor with the 80th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 51st Fighter-Interceptor Group. On 17 November 1950, while returning from a combat mission, his engine flamed out. He overshot Seoul Airfield (K-16) and crashed into the Han River.
Boone was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
