Private Forbes was a member of the 196th Field Artillery Battalion, X Corps. On 4 August 1953, he drowned while swimming at the X Corps Rest and Recreation Center.

Forbes was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
