Private First Class Taylor was a member of the 21st Ordnance Direct Support Company, U.S. Army. On 13 September 1953, he was the assistant driver of a tank recovery vehicle that left the road near Piaju-goli, North Korea, crushing him.

Taylor was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
