Biography:

On 26 October 1967, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Elmer Robert Lee Ables was serving with Detachment B-34 (Song Be), A Company, 5th Special Forces Group, 5th Infantry Division, in Phuoc Long Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SFC Ables was killed in action when the helicopter in which he was a passenger crashed as a result of hostile fire. His body was recovered.
